Building a Better Block

Could you and your friends be responsible for changing the way your community looks and works? That’s exactly what Jason Roberts did in his Dallas community. In this TED talk, Jason explains how a few bold changes can change a community. From creating a bike friendly community to improving the City Hall plaza with just a few enhancements, it was possible to breath some life into a city that had seen better days.

Often times when we think about public works projects, we think about the large potential price tag that comes with the enhancements. Jason gives some very practical ideas about how a little ingenuity and persistence can change the look and feel of a community.

It helps build community and contributes to public safety when people go out to meet their neighbors, which they are more likely to do if they walk or bike than if they drive.
